Kauai
These images were taken on the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian islands. Kauai is geologically the oldest of the Hawaiian islands. The geological processes in play that created the island of Kauai have shaped and formed some truly spectacular areas on the western side of the island.
The Na Pali coast is stunningly beautiful. Massive cliffs (pali) form deep and rugged canyons that rise straight out of the sea jutting up to heights of 4,000 feet (1,200 meters).
Likewise, the Waimea and Olokele Canyons are spectacular canyon lands with unbelievable color due to the combination of rugged rocks, cliffs, vegetation, and the constant presence of water in one form or another. Some of these images were shot on the ground, but many of them were taken from a helicopter in an effort to capture another dimension and perspective on these magnificent natural areas.
